Dear Sketchbookers,
Have you ever wondered which art supplies give you the results that you are looking for? Many people say that the art supply doesn’t make the style, SPOILER ALERT: it does!
At the beginning of April, I decided to use only 5 art supplies for the whole month, to get comfortable with a minimal amount of art supplies. The reason behind it? I will be traveling to Mexico for almost a month and would like to learn to be minimalistic before I go. I must tell you that, for the first week, I worked hard to find the right materials. I was not happy and my frustration started increasing! The more I tried the worse it felt but out of the blue, I got it! What if I make them compete with each other? I thought this would be super chill and fun, so I called it The Great Art Supply Showdown
Little did I know, my scientist’s brain was knocking on the door. Things changed and I came up with this scheme:
I needed to treat this like a lab experiment.
I chose 3 images per session.
I will use a maximum of 5 art supplies
The supplies need to be “from the same group”
I will draw each image with each supply
If you want to follow this experiment, the layout of your page should look like the one above.
Now that I had settled the rules of this Showdown, the next step was making groups of similar art supplies. So far, I have made 3 groups for this month, but I am planning to make this kind of experiment a series.
The ink brushes.
The fountain pens.
The sketching pencils.
The results of the first match/experiment will come soon, so stay tuned.
If you have a group of art materials that you would like to see let me know in the comments 😉
Until soon friends,
I always love your art experiments, they really make sense to me! Looking forward to see the results Citla 😊
Love your showdown illustration.
