Dear Sketchbookers,
There are so many things I want to talk about, so I will make little sections for you to check them out:
Monthly theme
May’s intentions.
2X FREE FOR ALL drawing sessions in May
I’m opening my paid subscriptions again, but for a short time….
April’s drawing session replays
Let’s begin:
1) Monthly theme
This month, we will be working on drawing PETS! These little companions can make or break an illustration (but they only make our lives better!). They help set the undertone of an image, establish an emotion, and add characteristics to the owner. What talks better about you than your pets? I am so excited for this one!
2) May’s intentions
Last month, I wrote a set of intentions and that helped me a lot to have a clear goal and a deadline for myself. Was it hard? Sometimes! So this month I want to keep it a bit lighter. I will start an intensive German course that will last for 2 months, and I am not sure how much time I will have left after that, so the intentions of this month are:
Be kinder to my art practice. There are many little things that can affect my day-to-day, and I would like to stay flexible and understanding. I don’t want to judge and stress, I just want to enjoy!
Send 2 Portfolio Diaries Interviews- one every 2 weeks
Gather Pets references (sorry, not a link this time!)
Draw lots of Pets (of course)
While drawing pets I will focus on experimentation, lots of art supplies and no restrictions. I will go with the flow during the drawing sessions.
Finish my portrait project for
, here is the brief!Reach out to illustration agents (with my brand new portfolio)
Go to my German course (I really have to!)
3) 2X Free for all drawing sessions in May (replays will be sent to paid subscribers).
Drawing dogs and cats with
on the 5th of May at 8pm CET. Do you know that Jenni has 2 Skillshare classes (Drawing dogs and cats)? In these 2 classes, she shares awesome tips for drawing pets!In the drawing session on the 5th of May (2025), we will draw lots of Pets, and Jenni will give us an exercise where we will be able to convert any shape into a cute pet! We will use what we have learnt using some reference photos. To sign up for the session, follow this link:
Do you want to share a picture of your dog or cat so we can draw it? You can share it in this chat:
Drawing weird pets and their owners with
on the 12th of May at 8pm CET. I have been having a blast collaborating with Emma Carpendale on this one! We had so many ideas, and we landed on owning the WEIRD in our art practice. We will work fast with images of unconventional pets to warm our hands and pencils, and we will move to work slowly with portraits of weird pet owners, or owners of weird pets? Let’s see how the session turns out!To sign up for the session, here is the link:
4) Substack payments:
Why subscriptions are like a grandma’s oven: They only open at specific times!
I am opening paid subscriptions again! The opportunity will open on the 1st and close on the 16th of every month.
Why? Honestly, it’s a mix of -adulting is hard- (delayed payments mean I need to have final statements before month-end) and wanting to keep things fair for everyone.
Think of it like a cozy art café with limited seats—it lets me:
Pour extra time into tutorials and feedback for current members.
Avoid drowning in spreadsheets so I can focus on actual art.
Keep the door open for new folks every month, guilt-free!
The good news?
If you join during the open window, you’ll still get instant access to all past paid posts and perks—no rushing to catch up.
5) Aprils drawing session replays
I have sent a secret email to my paid subscribers with the links for the drawing sessions. If you have missed that one, or you are a new paid subscriber, here are the links:
